The caster must achieve a threshold on the Spellcasting Test equal to 1 per 200 kg of the subject's mass. The subject of the spell can be moved anywhere in the caster's line of sight at a Movement rate equlal to the spell's Force * Net Spellccasting hits in meters per turn. Objects flung into ther things should be handled as a ranged attack test (see Fling) inflicting a number of boxes of stun as decided by gamemaster (especially dangerous objects may do P damge.) If attempting to levitate an item held by a living being, make an opposed test between the spell's force * 2 and the holder's strength + body. Caster must have at least 1 net hit to levitate the item away. If the caster is attempting to levitate an unwilling living being, the opposed test uses the target's strength + Body). You can use this spell to levitate yourself, if desired.
Influence (Manipulation, Mental) Type: M; Range: LOS; Duration: P; DV: (F/2)+1 The spell implants a single suggestion in the victim's mind, like a powerful post-hypnotic command. The subject will carry out this suggestion as if it were her own idea and it will then fade. If confronted with the wrongness of the suggestion, the subject can make a willpower tst to overcome it as described under mental manipulations, p. 210. Caster can withdraw suggestion at any time.

Everyday Life[/u] Antonio's Weekly Routine:
Randomly written in the first person:
Go to bed between 12:00 and 6:00 a.m., sleep for 6-8 hours; wake up between 8:00 a.m. and noon. Go for a quick 20 minute run, do calisthenics/forms and/or train w/ Kaz on the roof of the apartment building. I also pressure Kaz to join me, how often he does is up to him.
Show up to the warehouse a couple hours after waking up, check in with Max. Work on the rare occasions when we have work. Suggest he teach me that nifty invisibility spell. Pester Max to work on his combat magic and counterspelling with me, as much for my benefit as his, since increasing my magic/counterspelling skill is very high on my priority list right now.
I probably don't pay much attention to the "normal" work week cycle, Wednesday and Sunday are all basically the same in Seattle if you're not working a 9-5. There's always open club or bar around.
A few times a week I go to an MMA gym in the afternoon, work out/give other folks pointers. As I said, it would make sense for me to give pointers and lessons to people to help cover my gym membership. Nothing significant, $20 for a lesson here, a drink for some stories and advice. Tickets to an MMA match in exchange for some practice time as a sparring partner. Nickel and Dime background RP stuff. I currently roll 6 total dice to train blade or unarmed, so I'm a decent instructor.
Preferred way to spend an evening is out at a local bar nursing drinks very slowly. (I'm not rich) and watching a big trid. Occasionally (maybe once or twice a month) I go to underground fights or snag some amateur MMA tickets (the $10, 2 drink minimum kind). I don't have simsense and if we have a trideo it's a crummy set, probably paid for by Kaz, all my entertainment budget goes into going out or, when I stay in, reading or surfing the net or watching shows on my commlink and/or Monocle. I try to stay informed on all the various paranormal websites that monitor such activity, as well as watching pirated/broadcast cheesy action movies. Again, I probably encourage Kaz to socialize more, to work on that charisma 2 of his!
When working out, I probably wear form-fitting partial-body suit worn with shorts and a geeky T-shirt . . I'm thinking of buying a second set of partial-body form-fitting just for work out wear (there's no point in training extremely light clothing if you're nto going to be fighting in it!, but obviously I don't want to wear sweaty armor all day.) In addition, wear the securetech PPP for practice bouts with Kaz or others at the gym.
Normal hangout wear is form-fitting partial-body suit, black slacks, a decent quality T-shirt with a custom slogan on it, and a nice black leather jacket. If I'm working, I wear the heaviest jacket that won't be too obvious. Probably an armored jacket in low areas (dark grey), lined coat in medium areas (also dark grey), and the leather jacket if the heavier jackets will be too obvious. I also own several armored clothing button down shirts for occasions when T-shirts with witty sayings are obviously inappropriate event to Antonio, but where the suit isn't strictly necessary. So meeting a Johnson in a middle class joint.
In classy neighborhoods or business districts where it fits in, or when meeting new people professionally who might appreciate it, I would wear the suit, ($1500 Nuyen one from the main book, 5/3, -2 concealability, +$300 flexweave), instead of wearing one of my other 3 jackets.
Goals: I need to meet or find a Talismonger, buy him/her some drinks. We probably have a lot in common, either directly or indirectly (my Niece is, afterall, basically a legal talismonger/weaponsmith!) I want to (1) learn about the local paranormal activity and just general paranormal knolwedge and (2) I know there's some magical gear I'll need eventually, and I'd rather not drop a 5 years of lifestyle costs on a stranger. Even if I can't afford it now, it's like looking at high end sports cars, they're still interesting.
If I ever have money, i need to meet a good fixer. So I'll pursue any social lead that might introduce me to one. I expect/intend most real jobs will all come through Max, but I don't think he wants to do my shopping for me.
When I'm feeling bored or idle, I also probably try to figure out why water elementals might hate me. But no luck yet. I don't try very hard. It's more of an "I'm sitting here with nothing to do, I wonder . . . " or idle searching. Given my level of knowledge, I'm not sure there is a rational explanation. Althoguh I still suspect Me'Gana and Roberts are to blame . . .
Around our neighborhood, I'm probably a little more social than a shadowrunner should be, so I know most of our neighbors, and will water plants if they're away or hover menacingly in the back ground when Old Mrs. Smith hires a repair guy to make sure he doesn't steal any of her cats. I'm not from a street background, so I'm maybe a little too trusting.
What I wear: note that the armor clothing is literally useless with the lined coat, it's just my default clothing!
Background Characters of Note: Maria, [Human] Antonio's Somewhat-estranged Older Sister. Ladder-climbing Corp Exec. Antonio and Maria might exchange once-yearly "I'm not dead yet" calls. And those are probably because Annabelle insists we stay in touch. Antonio's pretty fuzzy on what it is she did or does for the corporation. I'll leave it to Ehren to determine what kind of corporation.
Annabelle: [Elven] Antonio's Niece. Weaponsmith Enchanter in Toledo. Antonio and Annabelle probably have brief contact monthly, and Annabelle made Antonio's Sword, but Antonio has absolutely no intention to ever involve Anna in his less than legal pursuits. So even if she *could* provide helpful gear or information, Antonio would refuse to contact her because he doesn't want her involved even very indirectly in anything dangerous.
Doctor Emily Inez: [Elven] Former S.O. who decided to pursue her career as a world-class expert in thaumatic macrobiology. Which I take to mean magical plants and critters large enough to be visible to the naked eye. Roughly. From Biofiber to Wendigos. Not on speaking terms after I burned down that university building. Our past history would probably reflect badly on her career.
Crazy Uncle Edward: [Human] I haven't seen him in 20 years, He'd be about 80 now. My father's younger brother. He used to be a blogger-conspiracy nut (even if he was right once or twice--he always knew the UB was up to no good, he's still considered a little crazy). Last I heard 10 years ago, was planning to retire to the subburbs outside of London. He may have muttered something about Nightwraiths that I chose to ignore. (It was nightwraith fighters that performed the unaccredited bombing credited with stopping further Eurowars, right?). He's retired and faded into obscurity as far as I'm concerned! I wouldn't be surprised if Anna(belle) has kept in touch with him, but Antonio hasn't.
Random T-shirts I own:
Gandalf picture + "Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger."
Marvin the Martian picture + "I have a laaaser. And it's pointed at your planet."
Harry Potter + "Real wizards have scars."
Back of shirt: "Who wants to live forever?" Front: Marcus picture (B5) + "I do, actually."
Yoda + "Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to the dark side."
"There can be only one." + a picture of Antonio (Pretend a different actor played Methos.)
"ELVEN OVERLORD Fetch me coffee!"
"I may be angry, but at least I'm not Mad!"
"Oh, you want trouble? I'll show you trouble . . . Look! Over there!"

Background Antonio Barrón a/k/a Antonio de la Espada
20 QUESTIONS Background
Where is your character from? Toledo! Madrid!
Does your character have a family? Yes! A lot more about this below. Notable are:
Older sister/MegaCorp Exec (Maria), approaching 65, but who knows when Execs retire these days?Older sister is married to a corp exec who is a loyal company man.
Niece (Annabelle) is somewhat estranged from her parents free spirit/elven artist/blacksmith/enchanting mage who took over her maternal grandparents business (tends to make magical weapons I'm thinking . . . possibly including the one I'm currently using?) I like the idea of a family forged blade.
Does you character have an ethnic background? Ummm, that depends on where I'm living! Does being a Spaniard Count? I mean, I don't think of myself that way! But the Basques might disagree . . .
Appearance
What does your character look like? 6'4'', Dark Brown Hair cut somewhat short; Athletic "runner's" build. (So thin by human standards). Pointy ears. It of course goes without saying that I'm far more handsome than you! (At least in my character's opinion :-p. Maybe not in anyone else's). About average for an elf, above average for a human, but only slightly!
What does your character dress like? On duty/working/meeting people Slacks + solid color button down shirt. Often the top two buttons tend to be unbuttoned and you can just see the top of some geeky T-shirt design. Usually wearing either an lined jacket or, for nicer places/when just kickin' back and going to dance clubs, a leather jacket. [It's a nice leather jacket, not a biker leather jacket.]
Just slacking around, probably black jeans and random geek shirts featuring wizards or the like. My character goes out of the way to hide the fact that he's a mage, and then he goes and wears "Carl the Combat Mage" shirts. I also probably wear the geeky shirts when working out.
Oh, and Antonio wears the monacle that looks like a pirate eye-patch in design, socially, although it's clearly a high-tech polymer so it's apparent to people that it's a technilogical doo-dad I use to see AR, not a handicap. I have a series of different images I can display on the outside without interfering with my vision (mono-color). So far the only one I've thought of is Skull and Crossbones, yarrrr! Another one would be a monocolor depiction of the Eye of Sauron.
When carrying the Laser Pistol, however, he wears mirror shades. $200 for the glasses alone, not counting the add-ons.
Does your character physical quirks? I'm thinking there's a missing "have" in here. Some light hardly noticeable scarring on my left hand that is "absolutely not from blowing up an antiquities building, really!".
Skills, Attributes & Resources Where did your character learn their Active Skills? See 4 page backstory, backstory generally! I think everything's covered except martial arts. Old Phillipino Martial Arts master who emigrated to spain and trains fighters for the underground or other more extreme fighting arts. He enjoyed starting bar fights to kick the crap out of the spanish, who he blames for most of the phillipines history, since they were the first colonial overlords. Between him and Roberts you have most of my back story. I'm assuming the +1 DV is actually more of a swordmaster martial art I learned from Roberts (despite how it's labelled on the character sheet), along with watchful guard, iajutsu and multi-weapon fighting. The Killing Blow and arnis-disarm were learned from the old phillipino. ["Makisig" sounds like a good Phillipino name. Where would RPers be without Babynames.com?]
Where did your character learn their knowledge skills? Mostly special interest, so a combination of chatting with my senseis and chatting with other researchers. Particularly Dr. Emily Inez. Although she's not speaking to me at the moment . . . I spent a lot of time talking to the practical-side of the field magical researchers, especially the thaumatic-biologists.
Antonio also subcribes to and reads a number of 'zines/feeds dealing with security and shadowrunning related gear. As well as keeping up on magical community publications.
Where did your character get their goodies? Either I knew a guy, or Bonesquisher did. It looks like everything I want can be purchased at a high end electronics store. Except the Light Pistol/Revolver I probably picked up at a seedy bar for Y15. Where does your character live? Cheap apartment shared with Bonesquisher, 4-8 blocks from Spencer's place probably.
Who are your character's contacts? I knew I forgot something. I mean, I'm new to the area, so Maximoff/Bonesquisher/Steve's Character are my only actual contacts. WTB Work.
Who are your character's enemies? I probably don't have any formal enemies. . . that I know about. A lot of people are probably unhappy with me, but *as far as I know* none of it is personal. Except the Water Spirits :-p. --- although the inquisition and/or the owners of other rare artifacts that were destroyed may have grudges I don't know about. . . and who knows who owend the artifact we went after for Bonesquisher . . . I didn't bother to check . . . property rights don't apply in that case :-). ---- and I see in my backstory I've at least researched or dabbled in what is arguably starting to resemble blood or soul magic. I'm pretty sure what Me'Gana/Roberts have is a blood bond, and since they are aware of horrors, anything to do with blood magic or blood spirits is particularly interesting to me. This tends to upset the inquisition. -- Also, the rumours in the magical community probably give me an unhealthy interest in Aztlan. Fortunately, I do speak Spanish!
How did you character learn magic? (Adepts/Magicians Only) See 4 page backstory. Primarily senseis or self-taught. Personality What are your characters likes and dislikes? Urban brawl is interesting. Huge fan of Fencing. I don't care much for other sports. Especially Baseball, too many americans try to swing a sword like a bat. It's just embarassing. Old nerdy movies are somethign I can approve of. Also action movies. I love a challenge! Especially fighting dragons . . . What is your character's moral code? Never Hurt innocents, generally help people. I know enough about corporations from my estranged older sister that I know corps are never innocent! Never break a promise. Ever! (Seriously, -1 die sucks)
Does your character have goals? At this point, not especially, largely "finding himself" and figuring out what to do with the next 50 years of his life (if the scientists are right in their analysis of lifespans, but based on what Roberts has hinted at, they are!)
Does your character have personal beliefs? He probably considers himself catholic. But he's a very bad catholic and he doesn't bother to think about it. Also, after destroying artifacts of the church on loan to the university . . . and maybe getting on the nerves of an inquisition agent, he doesn't go to church :-p. And he doesn't really buy the prohibition on conjuring, but he always feels a little guilty about and so treats summoned spirits with a great deal of respect.
Does your character have personality quirks? I don't know about quirks. I'm alittle too quick to get into trouble. I'm probably over-confident (So arrogant in the sense of not intimidated by anyone/convinced he can do anything, but not arrogant in the "I am better than you" sense).
Running the Shadows Why does your character run the shadows? The challenge. And Corporations are the evil empires of our day! I might have subtle anarchists leanings. I've probably been to Germany several times. Berlin is great, especially the clubs! If we're focusing more on extra-legal magical threats, it won't be as much of a big deal. I likely view laws and law enforcement not as *bad*, but as incapable of handling the problems of the modern world.
I think I explained my legal philosophy as something like this: Governments are good, the rules should be followed by people because society needs rules to function. However, laws are very bad at handling specific situations, and being 70 years old, I feel I know right from wrong. Whether it's legal or not doesn't especially concern me. Laws that I agree with are good, ones I don't are bad. You shouldn't break the law, unless you have a good reason. but most people aren't capable of making that judgment well or sincerely! I don't spend a lot of time pondering the legal code. My attitude towards authority is pretty much the same. Basically, I don't really believe in it, I will follow someone as a leader because either (a) it's just easier to do what your boss says to get a paycheck; (b) because someone has to fill out the paperwork to keep this operation functioning, so it might as well be me; and/or (c) because I happen to personally respect said boss. But positions of authority and rules carry no moral weight for me. I'm just a pragmatist who realizes the world needs rules!
How does your character view their role as a shadowrunner? He fancies himself somewhat of a hero and do gooder, although sometimes he's just focused on the challenge. Climbing a mountain without tackle doesnt' make you a hero, but it's still the kind of thing he might do!
Ethical Framework & Tradition Philosophy While Antonio can enter contracts that are simply that - contracts, he takes oaths and actual promises very seriously! . He also, being old fashioned and being influenced by Me'Gana takes oaths very very seriously. Any oaths involving Karma, of course, are deadly serious. I mean, the one between Me'Gana, Bonesquisher and Roberts has caused them to be stuck together for something like 10,000 years! Those are what you call *consequences.*
Here's how I view the world magically: CAVEAT: I make a lot of assertions about other traditions, I'm not trying to straightjacket other characters into them, just to explain *my* character by means of contrast. I blame early 20th century jurists myself. [Which is funny, because my favorite quote ever is
My Magic is an Art. Whereas a Logic based caster tends to approach it with a logical or scientific bent (be they hermetic or chaos mage); I think it is not necessarily rational or comprehensible. It is an art. But unlike the charisma based caster, I do not consider the inspiriation to come from spirits or nature or the wheel of the world -- my inspiration is entirely me. Whereas a Charisma-baed caster is external focus (this is my place in the world, how do I fit in? How do I use the natural state of the world?) - and thus is using Charisma, much like they would socially to fit themselves into a larger picture. I, on the other hand, am self-focused. I create my own magic, and my own inspiration, and I use that to shape the world around me. But magic is not simply an act of will, but of creation and art! I am not simply a name-observer, I am a name-giver! Although I am not a . . . what's the term for dragons, name-shaper? Although I likely view the process as harnessing the subconscious.
And I pursue the path of the physical mage, and seek self-actualization and mind-body unification, through both meditation and physically dangerous adventure. For me, the idea of astral projection holds no appeal - I would be losing half of myself!
And, with respect to spirits - they are free entities and should not be bound against their will.
As an aside to something I may have said earlier, to try to explain how I fit myself in the world of magic traditions: I completely agree that a Chaos mage is not a "hermetic", although they are a logic-oriented caster and logic plays a central role in their tradition:
A hermetic looks at a monofilament broadsword and goes "this is the product of science and technology - and the scientific method. This is the paragon of a great sword. Even if a Katana can sometimes be very deadly - the method of creating Katanas is hit or miss - practically luck! A shaman dancing around the bonfire might get the same result as a mage through careful study and precise application of magical principle, but he's doing it all wrong and hardly knows what he is doing!.
A Charisma type caster (Shinto Shaman?) might think "A Katana is a samurai's soul. A Samurai would rather be caught dead than usethe soulless thing that is a monofilament broadsword!". Hermetics in their narrowmindedness can't understand!
A Chaos Mage, still being logic mage, goes look -there's gotta be a unified theory underlying all magic - it's all the same. Similarly, that means there is no right or wrong way to do magic - just a successful way. A Katana is a str/2+3, -1 AP weapon. So is a Katana. I will use whichever is most convenient to me! A Chaos mage shares a hermetics ideal that there most be a structure or a method to the madness. But a chaos mage embraces the madness, rather than a hermetic's narrowminded view and goes "look, I need to make a volcano blow up. I'ts time for the ghost dance. I'm not going to re-invent the wheel here. But maybe I'll create some elemental forms to help me!
I, by comparison, am more apt to go. "This is my sword, it is special. Because it is mine. It is defined by all the meaning inherent in the name I give it. But it is not a thing to be revered, anymore than an artist reveres his own painting. But there will never be another sword like it. It could not be recreated by another spellcaster, no matter how dedicated or exacting the replica (effectively dismissing the hermetic or scientific tradition). Nor did I merely find the name the item already had (as a shaman might view things). But I *gave it* it's name. I also tend to believe that magic is *magic*. Not subject to any unified theory or bound by any laws, only ideas and general principles.
Family Background: Antonío Barrón (born December 15, 2011) was raised by his parents of modest means on the outskirts of Toledo, Spain. [The capitol of the autonomous region of Castille-La Mancha. Nowhere near where Quixote was from – that’s the southern part of the province!] Antonío's Father was a quiet hardworking blacksmith and mother was an artist who lost interest in commercial and modern “art,” who always enjoyed painting fantastic scenes.
[Antonío's personal favorite being a painting of hungry giants pretending to be windmills.] Due to the pre-awakening market's lack of serious in such work, she just made a small income on the side illustrating children's books.
After the awakening, as people started to realize magic was back, and faux-magician/fantasy start making it's way back into mainstream culture, both businesses took off. Antonío's father became a well respected bladesmith popular with executives and enthusiasts alike who wanted to show that they were serious about their steel, but did not want to suggest allegiance to the "cult of the Katana", especially in light of bias against the Japanese Megacorporations. Antonío's mother really did possess quite a talent (and, though she never told anyone, astral perception). Thus, somewhat unexpectedly, Antonío was able to attend college and, being the younger slightly, he was able to do so on his parent's dime and focus on what he loved - which happened to be athletics and fencing. He was also able to avoid selling his soul to corporate "scholarships." This was particularly fortunate since, when he went to college around 2030, people still weren't too sure about elves - as the oldest known elves were only 20, so no one was willing to invest too heavily in metahumans who might face a very low glass ceiling - especially after Goblinzation occured and VITAS killed 25% of the world's population.
Antonío's sister, Maria, being 5 years older (and human) didn't have quite the advantage and, being rather brilliant (in antonío's view, his older sister was always smarter and better at most things! Add in elves slower maturity rate, and by the time he was 10, it amounted to an effective 10 year maturity gap. She accepted a corporate scholarship, pursued an MBA in corporate bloodletting, and joined a Mega. (I'm thinking Saeder-Krupp).
While the siblings started close, as Antonío went through college, he started to realize exactly what joining a corporation meant - potentially hundreds of years of enforced loyalty. His sister, moving her way up the ranks, needed to, at all times, be seen as a loyal company woman - who knows when someone was watching. And thus, they drifted very far apart. [Antonío doesn't know what she did - whether it was legal, quasi-legal, or out-and-out illegal/shadowy.]. Additionally, Maria ended up marrying a dedicated company man, which more or less made visits uncomfortable and unpleasant for all, as Antonío and corporations didn't mix well.
In 2040, Maria was finally able to take a break from a dedicated career track, and she and her husband had one daughter. Annabelle--an elf. Tension in the family was inevitable. As, of course, Annabelle's father knew the proper track for the young girl was to grow up to become a loyal member of the corporation. Maria, having some idea and being influenced by her brother's better understanding of what it means to be someone who may live for hundreds of years, was a little more ambiguous. In order to give the girl a little more freedom of both action and thought, but avoid any conflict in the perfect corporate family, Annabelle was frequently sent to visit her grandparents (and Antonío made it a point to visit frequently when that occured!). Thus, Annabelle eventually grew up to be something of a free spirit, and took more and more after her grandmother.
It is now 2070, and the family situation is:
Antonio & Maria's parents recently passed away.
Maria, now being 65, is on the verge of retiring - if she can. . Maria and Antonio are not hostile, but they are distant and haven't spoken in many years.
Annabelle took over her grandmother's business and, surprising everyone, her grandfather's as well. She has a gift for both art and shaping metal and - it turns out - magic. [I'm thinking a physical mage like Antonio - physical adept powers go a long way in blacksmithing!]. Antonio and her are in somewhat regular contact, although he's careful to try to keep the traces minimal. Antonio Timeline:
Born December 15, 2011. One of the first wave of UGE births. His parents weren't sure what to think, but his mother's love of all things fantasy did not hurt!
As he was raised, he was instilled with very old fashioned notions of honor and justice. As well as becoming familiar with a sword--if you're going to have children around swords, they're going to know how to use them safetly. The family is technically catholic, and he was raised that way, but only minimally. It's something they put on census forms but don't think about a lot.
It should also be noted that Antonio inherited the family superstition against water and also was always a little uncomfortable around technology. He is pretty sure the toaster tried to attack him once. [Gremlins 1].
As he grew older and completed high school (barely) he ended up going on layabout and not doing much for a few years, before he was ready for college. [Slower maturing rate]. But eventually he was able to enroll at the Madrid university on his promise to the fencing team and his parents ability to pay a completely un-reduced tuition rate. Not easy for most families at that time, as the school attempted to keep out all but the upper crust (Not necessarily rich, but well-off). He became fascinated by fencing and made the olympic team - but then his powers became noticeable and he was prevented from competing. Nevertheless, he showed a keen eye and a great deal of skill, and, after he finished college, was able to get a job as a fencing coach.
As time went on and medieval became the new chic, he started doing private teaching on the side, which lead to some involvement with some unsavory types and some folks who just happened to live in very bad neighborhoods. Given that they refused to travel into the better parts of town, he rapidly learned how to deal with those elements. And also got dragged into a few too many questionable situations trying to help students. . . in addition, he found a house he was quite happy with and refused to move . . . despite the terrible neighborhood. But the walk to campus was pleasant as long as you were the sort who was comfortable clobbering street toughs, and paid off the local street gang in pointers.
In 2051, Antonio was making use of the University’s Olympic sized swimming pool, alone (When you’ve been with the athletic department for 15 years. [Athletic Skillgroup 1 Go! There are perqs to being on staff.] (Although University Politics is a chore [Influence Group, rating 1!]. Combine a Seniority Faculty System with a lifespan at least twice as long as your colleagues. It doesn’t make you friends.)(I’m guessing he also took to studying history and literature, but I haven’t done my knowledge skills yet). (Also “magical threats” knowledge skill is likely). Unfortunately, it turns out the family tradition of not trusting the water was well founded (spirit bane-water spirits) and he was attacked and nearly drowned. While fighting for his life and calling out to God, Buddha, his Ancestors and anyone else that came to mind he managed to call out to an ancestor from the way-back (although some magical theorists would argue he merely constructed – crazy imagination) (Enter Roberts—“Ok, Me’Gana, you may have been right . . . pissing off that Great Dragon was NOT a good idea . . . where are we? Who are you?”) Who, along with a second spirit (Me’Gana: in a Stage Whisper “10,000 years, and I still can’t get rid of him!”. [Roberts to Me’Gana: “Not very talkative, is he?” Me’Gana to Roberts: “Well, he does appear to be drowning. You elves never could swim.” The summoning, and their aid, combined with the trauma and near drowning (I imagine medically dead for at least a few minutes), awakened his dormant magical potential. [Antonio is, after all, now soulbound with a sword master and an ancient wizard] and suddenly he gained the ability to see into the astral plane.
This, of course, after many arguments lead to additional training and meditation. It’s not hard to be convinced to study sorcery when spirits are trying to kill you. Antonio has tried to ask Me’Gana and Roberts if they know *why* the water spirits are out to get him, but they just look faintly embarrassed and change the subject. Me’Gana tends to describe it as a big family feud. [Me’Gana, being T’Skrang, should in *theory* have been highly attuned to the interests of water spirits . . . but all he’ll say is that no matter which side you choose in a family feud, you’re going to lose. Possible future story arc?] And, as magic grew stronger, across the world, Antonio discovered that living in an ancient neighborhood in a very old city that has seen a lot of blood and holy wars . . . tends to lead to an unfortunate amount of troubling unnatural phenomena. [Astral Combat 1! Assensing!]. At this point, between his highly opinionated mentor spirits, and everything else that’s gone wrong, Antonio *knows* that he’s cursed. [Bad Luck.]
He’s also afraid of any body of water that’s 6 or more feet deep. [Phobia, Water @ least 6 feet deep.] That swimming pool wasn’t the last time water tried to drown him. And every time someone tries to take him out in a boat, the engine seems to die at the worst possible time . . . he views pitchers of water with great concern, and always stabs his glass of water with a knife or fork before drinking it, to make sure that it’s really just water.
As an aside, someone needs to research magical swords that don’t cut living flesh. Imagine world class sword fighting where no one has to hold back and the judges can distinguish between a scratch and a disemboweling!]. It’s time to promote a new sport. (That’s likely Antonio’s Dream. Ultimate Fencing would bring back the profession of the duelist. Add in magical visual effects (spurting blood, simulated beheadings). And we have a real winner here.
As part of the fencing team, he’s also travelled globally, and has likely encountered other people interested in magical threats (good reason to know Spencer’s character). Although I don’t know what the look on a brilliant academic’s face would be when he discovers through casual conversation that this visiting jock professor actually knows more about magical theory and history than most of his professors . . . [So I could have known Spencer’s character at least casually for many years. ] [I’m roughly a very young 70-80 right now J].
I need to talk with Joel about how we know each other. Be interesting if he had an interest in medieval weaponry, hired me as a tutor. Me’Gana and Roberts recognized that there was something about him. And with that connection (ritual casting 1!) we were eventually able to track down what happened to Bonesquisher’s soul (Pissing off a Great Dragon is *really* a bad idea). And after a much searching, a lot of over-the-top violence, and some very risky spell casting and initiation into some higher mysteries (“You need my blood for *what* now?”) (“What do you mean my Aura looks like it would make a good snack?” [Masking!]) Bonesquisher’s soul was freed by my character and Joel’s.
However, we *may* have destroyed an ancient antiquities wing of the University in the process . . . [Bad Luck] and while they couldn’t prove it was me, internal politics, and the fact that I wasn’t technically a citizen elimininated all prospects of Employment in Spain. (elves were not by default given SINs, and I never bothered going through the hassle of becoming one again after the Crash of '64] because Me’Gana and Roberts kept talking me out of giving Genetic Samples to the government and I figured my university position was secure). It’s also possible the inquisition isn’t to happy with me if I’m suspected of involvement with blood magic. Ergo, finding legitimate work without a SIN, while being academically blacklisted, and trying to live in Spain with some under-the-table disapproval by the Inquisition just wasn’t working out for him.
[And in destroying the building (this being just before the campaign starts), I'd run into Maximoff, who I had met before (which was fortunate, us getting suspicious and trying to kill each other would have been a bad start), who it turns out had coincidentally become involve din investigating the same cult that held bonesquisher's soul!] I do believe he offered [Joel's Character] and myself a job, which we readily accepted!
Recent Additions Here's my understanding: As I said before, I'd met Maximoff in the past, so we had some knowledge of each other (again, wild low level water spirit goes crazy, attacks visiting fencing team instructor). Then we ran into each other with the whole cult/building destruction/Bonesquisher thing. I needed to get otu of the country, he realized his job was dangerous if he was interested in these magical cult-things. We'd known each other as distant acquiantances for a few years. Seemed like a good arrangement. To Seattle I go! But I have no contacts in Seattle.

This is hanging behind the couch. I also have ultra high definition electronic backups stored on my commlinks and a backup with Annabelle :-). Not as good as the original, but I accept that my apartment will probably burn down.
Also, if you don't mind some more retconning, Antonio needs something to do with his hands when he's idle. So I'd like to have a chunk of iron, the size of a half-dollar, with my father's makers-mark on it (made by his father). It was just scrap-iron. [Not steel, cold iron. As far as I know that means nothing in FASA, but it's an old superstition nonetheless] [Antonio's father was a blacksmith, if you recall.] Then antonio can do finger tricks and flip the coin. [8 dice, might as well use the skill!].

I think for a licenses for Magic would be by spell type (healing, detection, manipulation... probably hard to get a license of Combat) and for summoning it would just be for summoning not per spirit or bound/summoned.
For foci it would be per school (and fit under the school possibly - so "license: health" would cover a health focus.
Licenses are attached to sins.

'Course, if we did buy the other characters presents, it would be Kurt's call in game, Antonio would just help bankroll it :-). Antonio doesn't have any personal interest in firearms, so this is all out-of-character ramblings at the moment :-).

Kurt could put it together, but can't bankroll it. Kaz has a contact that could help out though...
Of course, if you put S&S ammo in the Elan, then it went from 4P to 6S(e) -1/2 Armor... and running a smartlink & our TACNET that gives a pretty big DP.
Kinda like you might just have a 1 in Laser Wpns but you still roll 12 dice.

Or a capluse bullet with DSMO + Toxin... it works pretty much the same way.
Guns are pretty evil in the game... not as evil as magic, but still pretty evil.

We're not talking about guns though, we're talking about super-specialized ammo. There IS a difference! The straight up Morrisey Elan is not particularly scary :-p. The Morrisey Elan that can hit like a rifle due to mods and special bullets, that's scary!

Laser 2: Start: April 7. Week 1 (5 dice): 0 hits Week 2 (5 dice): 0 hits That's right, I'm like 3 hits for 69 dice Week 3 (5 dice): 3 hits Week 4 (5 dice): 0 hits Week 5 (5 dice): 4 hits (needed 1)
I hate you dice.
So 5 weeks to train laser 1 to laser 2. I hate dice. Finish: May 14 or so. Current campaign date: approx. April 15-30 (somewhere in there we went talismongering)
Amusingly, with a TN of 12, contact (5/1) finishes at same time. Go go street cred.
I may in the future spend Karma to expand him to a group and introduce him to actual other people. For now I figure he knows some names internationally, but has no personal pull (so slightly broader knowledge range than a typical 5, but a lot less influence than a normal 5.)
Just some crazy.
IN the future I might spend Karma to introduce him to other people. (+2 connection: here's a group of people in seattle you should know!) Need to add roughly 26 more Karma to make it a group. That's a campaign-length objective!
(+2 20-99 members; +6 global; +1 minority have limited magical assetts, +2 broad reaching matrix presence)= +22 Karma.
